His father being an Evangelical Presbyterian, Junior Maxwell was baptized together with his Sister in the Evangelical Presbyterian church but was later received into the Catholic Church on the 16th of August 1996 at Corpus Chirsti Parish, Sakumono Estates in Accra.

After successfully passing his BECE exams, he was admitted to Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary in Koforidua in 1998 where he studied science as a minor seminarian. Edmund Afagbedjee. He was admitted for the SVD formation program arriving at St. Joseph Freinademetz Formation House in Tamale on the 4th of October 2001 for the philosophical studies at St. Augustine’s Millennium Major Seminary, Tamale. Upon completion in the year 2004, he had his one year novitiate programme at Nkwatia-Kwahu in Ghana under the direction of Rev. Fr. Andrew Anumu Quaye-Foli, the then Novice Master. It was after this Novitiate experience that he professed his First Vows on the 20th July, 2005.
Since it was his desire to learn French, Rev. Maxwell was asked to go to Democratic Republic of Congo to continue his formation there. He had to first equip himself with the french language to enable him pursue his Theological studies the Congo. He did the language programme at the Institut St. Eugène de Mazenod in Kinshasa for a year after which he mover to the Université St. Augustin de Kinshasa (USAKIN) for the Theological studies. After finishing the third year of theology in 2009, Rev. Maxwell went to Chile in South America for an Overseas Training Programme (OTP) for two years. After the OTP, he returned to the DR Congo in 2011 to finish his Theological studies, professed his Perpetual vows and then returned to Ghana on the 31st of May to prepare for his priestly ordination. He speaks three international languages: English, French and Spanish and can also read and understand Portuguese. He loves reading.
